Artist Statement

Attended the Central Art Academy of Commercial Art, Cincinnati, Ohio.
After graduation she began working for Gibson Greeting Cards in Cincinnati as a designer and later as creative director. She later opened her own studio and designed cards, gift-wrap, fabric, and wall coverings. For Rand McNally she designed and illustrated children’s books. These projects led into conceptual art for Disney Studios and Fischer Price Toys. She relocated to San Francisco to design and develop products for Charles Schultz.

Later, living in Massachusetts she created gift items for Shaffer-Eaton Textron. The CEO of Paper Magic convinced her to join their group as VP of marketing, relocating to Boston. She liked the challenge and variety of products, Paper Magic had to offer and the building of an art staff.

Over the years she would paint and research favorite subjects of street vendors and river landscapes. Her main gallery affiliation has been the Closson’s Gallery in Cincinnati.

Anne say’s, “My busy work and travel schedule limited my painting and personal time. The stress of work caused an optical stroke in my left eye from hypertension, which limited my vision. Two years ago, my vision in my right eye suddenly became less and I was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration. I retired 12 years ago. I am no longer able to do the intricate requirements of commercial art and have stopped my painting regularly. Since my vision impairment, the only painting I’m showing here is a study of a pile of peaches of which I enlarged and rendered in pastels.”

“I hope that the continuing regime of injections in my right eye will halt the process of MD. Although my eye remains dry, I am still loosing vision. I am able to read with visual aids, but I have not continued my painting. I fight depression and I hope eventually I will go back into my studio.”
