Arlissa Vaughn

Arlissa Vaughn's Artwork

Biography

Arlissa Vaughn is a professional artist working in acrylic paint and the emerging genre of new media. Her art blends traditional and experimental techniques and mediums to result in visually stimulating mixed media paintings that are reminiscent of the Surrealist and Abstract Expressionist movements. Incorporating rich textures, delicately layered colors, and abstracted imagery, her artwork invites viewers to ponder the sacred and the secular.
Arlissa obtained a BFA from East Carolina University in 2005, and in the same year was diagnosed with the vision impairing disease of retinitis pigmentosa. Affects of the disease have not yet permeated her art, other than occasional reduced mobility and the need for extra light in some cases. The disease has, however, given her an increased motivation to make as much art as she can while she still has as much vision as she does. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally, been artist-in-residence in Hungary and NYC, and is the founder and editor of Visual Overture Magazine. She currently resides in Southern California where she continues to make and exhibit art regularly.
