William Edmonston

William Edmonston's Artwork

Artist Statement

W. Edward Edmonston is a retired Professor of Neuroscience/Psychology from Colgate University. He began painting in 1998, three years before developing wet macular degeneration in his left eye. Although primarily self-taught, his early training was at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute of Art, Utica, NY (now part of the Pratt Institute).
Edmonston is an advocate of making the aesthetic and emotional appreciation of visual art available to all. Art for the masses starts with modern realism and is enhanced with frameless presentation. The former reaches out to viewers by giving them subject matter with which they are familiar, while the latter avoids the compositional confusion of making the emotional impact of an art work dependent on elaborate framing.
His paintings have appeared in juried shows in Utica, Cooperstown, Clinton, Old Forge, Rome, Norwich, and Little Falls, NY. His works are in private collections in Philadelphia; New York City; Virginia Beach; Munich, Germany; and the Central New York area. His solo shows have been “Scapes: Landscapes, Seascapes and Cityscapes” and “People of the World.”
More of his paintings can be seen at www.thelittlegallery.org or by making an appointment (315-824-1965 or billnell@verizon,net) to visit The Little Gallery in Hamilton, NY.
