Artist Statement

Tom O’Brien is a painter, sculptor, writer, poet, teacher, art
restorer, author and an exhibiting artist with works in bronze, terra
cotta and pastel. He has earned critical acclaim for his sculptures
and paintings for The Franklin Mint, Willits Design, the Bradford
Exchange, CUI and The Danbury Mint. His relief steins and mugs
developed for Avon Products, Inc., are unique in the field. Tom
started his career in advertising on Madison Avenue and was an art
director in advertising and publishing for ten years prior to
embarking on a career as an illustrator and sculptor.

“It seems I’ve journeyed far and wide within the world of art, but
more than seeking a special niche, I have enjoyed every aspect of each
branch of this fascinating field and continue to explore it today. If
I were forced to choose just one discipline in the arts, that decision
must settle upon exploring the human condition expressed through
painting and sculpture".

Tom studied sculpture under the tutelage of Ruben Nakian at Pratt
Institute in Brooklyn, NY and drawing and painting at both the Frank
Reilly School of Art and The Art Students League in New York City.
