Artist Statement

            I'm a twenty-five year old self taught artist. I've been drawing and painting since I was a child. I'm also a physics student.
            I enjoy drawing or painting almost anything; my favorite medium to use is acrylic and pencil. About my eye condition: I was born very premature(one pound, 3.5 oz).
I developed a retinal detachment when I was twenty-one and was then diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity.
            I had lived with deteriorating vision and flashing lights in my left eye for over a year, not knowing that my retina was detaching, or that I had an eye disease. Family members kept telling me the blind spot would probably go away. It didn't, but fortunately, an older friend I knew happened to work in the field of laser eye surgery; he found me a doctor to diagnose my problem and re-attach the retina. It took three surgeries to reattach the retina; I thought that I would lose my vision completely in that eye, but thankfully the third surgery worked, and stopped it from progressing. I've also had some laser surgery done in my right eye.
